Overview
The steel drum, or steel pan, is a unique percussion instrument originating from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago.
Now you can learn how to play beautiful calypso music with the Jumbie Jam, a professional-grade steel drum designed with beginners in mind.
The Jumbie Jam is ready to play out of the box and includes rubber mallets, an instruction manual, a learning CD, and an adjustable stand. Once you set the stand to your preferred height, the CD and songbook guide your journey toward mastering the sounds of the Caribbean.
With all of the notes marked and circled on the drum, the Jumbie Jam makes playing your first song simple. And even though the Jumbie Jam is made for beginners, the sound it produces rivals professional steel pans.
The Jumbie Jam is produced in the USA by two steel drum experts who apprenticed under traditional pan artisans in Trinidad and Tobago. By combining their knowledge of music and modern manufacturing techniques, they meticulously craft steel pans that are perfectly tuned and ring with a pitch-perfect sound every time you play them.

There are five easy-to-learn songs included in each book and a million more to create once you have mastered the steel pan. When you have mastered one of the easier songs like Beginner Bossanova, move on to the slightly more challenging Sunshine Soca.

Alright, let’s get playing! The Jumbie Jam is packed with all the essentials to get you going. From the pan you will be playing on, to the rubber tipped mallets you will be playing with, everything is right there in the box.
The song book also includes a play-along CD so you can hear the song you are learning.

Question: How hard it is it to play?
Answer: Most of the Vat19 staff that tried were able to learn the basic songs very quickly. The book and marked notes on the pan really do speed up the learning process.
Question: Most steel pans are very different. Do all of these pans sound the same?
Answer: The Jumbie Jam is a truly unique instrument in that its design and manufacturing process have gone through lots of trial and error to ensure the pitch is consistent for every steel pan.
