While there are a nearly limitless number of koi varietals (some of which sell for insane sums of money), there is only one Koi Toy. Although the Koi Toy exhibits the traditional orange coloring of the Orenji Ogon (thank you, Wikipedia), there's nothing traditional or ordinary about the Koi Toy.

When touched to water, the Koi Toy lights up from the inside. It's LED inner-workings continuously cycle through a variety of colors for as long as the Koi Toy is touching water.

Can the battery be replaced?

No, the batteries cannot be replaced.

can the koi toy be submerged?

Yes, it is meant to be in the water! The LED bulb and battery are safely sealed.

Would this be okay for a hot tub? Say 100-102 degrees.

The manufacturer could not say for sure if heat would affect the performance (they have not tested it in hot water), but they think it should be OK since the light is triggered by water.

Hey! My younger brother's birthday is coming up and he LOVES fish,but our mother doesn't want me to buy him a real fish so I want to buy this. but is it possible to turn off the light so he doesn't wast all the battery? Luv your vids!

The Koi Toy doesn't have a power switch, so the only way to turn it off is to take it out of the water.

What do we do when the battery runs out?

You cannot change the battery inside of the Koi Toy. It has a watertight seal and cannot be opened and re-closed.

Can you fully submerge the koi toy underwater? I love playing with stuff underwater thanks!

Sure! It will still bob back to the surface once you let go, though.

Will it light up even if you put a drop of water on it?

No. The water needs to connect the circuit on the bottom of the fish in order for it to light up.

Do you have to change the bulb?

No. LEDs do not need to be changed.

Is the koi toy a boy or a girl?

I'm no expert when it comes to fish, and it's difficult to tell by taking a quick peek under the fins, but if I had to guess I would say that they're probably male.

Did you make this out of real goldfish?

It's plastic. We promise.

This may seem strange, but is it possible to get the KoiToy *without* the light-up feature? I have been looking for some fake fish for my fish pond.

The light inside of the Koi Toy is not removable or replaceable. The little silver dots on the bottom are sensors, not screws. If you don't want the fish to light up, you could leave it in water for about 40 hours until the battery dies.

Why do you need a toy when you can have the real thing.

Because most people don't take baths with live fish.

If you play with this fish in the water over several times, will the eyes rub off?

The eyes will not wear off easily. In fact, your eyes will probably wear out before the Koi Toy's!

How does it float?

It is made from plastic, is light, and part of its body is hollow. The weight of the battery and bulb are on the bottom so it stays upright.

Can you change the battery, or do you have to buy another one when it dies?

No, you cannot change the battery inside of the Koi Toy. It has a watertight seal and cannot be opened and re-closed.

How does the water activate the LED light?

The water connects the circuit between two metal nubs on the bottom of the fish.

I like to tie vinyl fishies to a swimming pool for my dogs to jump in and catch. Are they safe if my doggies try to chew?

They're not made specifically for dogs, however we do not think there would be any problem with doing that.

Does the bulb get hot?

There is no bulb. The Koi Toy contains LEDs which emit no heat.

What would happen if I bought, like, enough koi toys to fill up a bathtub and turned them all on at random times??? Would that look awesome???

Does it float correctly even if you just toss it into the tub? By correctly, I mean not on it's side or top or strait up and down.

The Koi Toy does a great job of staying upright. You can see it doing just that in the video we have on the product page.

What black magic makes this thing light up when it touches water? I MUST KNOW.

When you put the Koi Toy in water, it connects a circuit between two metal nodes. This allows the LED inside to glow.

I know that a circuit is a full circle, so if you put your hand where the circuit should connect, would you get a slight shock?

Not at all.

Do you think the chlorine levels/sun in a pool would damage it?

Probably not right away, but if you left the toy in the pool and out in the sun for a long time there is a possibility that it could fade.

What colors does it change into?

It cycles through yellow, orange, blue, and pink hues. The colors blend together as they change.

can a baby choke on it?

The Koi Toy seems much too big (7x3x3") to be swallowed. However, it is recommended for ages 3+.

Does it move in water by itself?

Nope. The Koi Toy floats serenely on the surface of the water just like Kylie Minogue in that Nick Cave video.

What are the colours that the Koi Toy cycle through?

No, the fish is only available in orange.

You could.

No. You should never put anything in your fish tank that wasn't specifically designed to go in there as it could harm your fish.

Is this product made out of silicone?

No. The Koi Toy is made of soft PVC plastic.

If you put the Koi Toy underwater with the light on, will the light shut off or electricute you?

Absolutely not.

If I put on a cup on my night table will it float around? Also how many cm is 7"?

The Koi Toy will float in water regardless of what sort of container is holding the water. 7" is approximately 17.8cm.

what will happen if I submerge it in water?

When you say that the Koi Toy is squishable do you mean that its kind of rubbery and soft or is it hard plastic that gives in a little?

It's a rubbery plastic sort of similar to a Barbie doll's head. It's not squishy like a stress ball, but it's not rigid either.

So, the koi toy only lights up when in the water?

That's correct!

Does the toy contain no screws at all?

There aren't any screws, but there are two very small metal contacts on the bottom of the Koi Toy that control the mechanism that lights up the fish when the contact points touch water.

Could we return this once the battery dies for a new one? Or for a reduced price?

Neither Vat19 not the manufacturer has tried this, but the manufacturer thinks it would still work. It would probably get sticky.

What would happen if you cut open the mouth and blow it up like a balloon?

That would be impossible. The Koi Toy is made from tough plastic, not expandable rubber like a balloon.

Will it affect the way the fish works if I put a bath bomb/bubble bath in the water with the fish

Can you see the LED light machine through the skin when the light is not on? Or does it just look like there is nothing there unless you look really close

You have to look VERY close to make out that there's something inside the Koi Toy.

What happens if you keep it in the sun too long?

Apart from possibly causing the color to fade a little bit, constant exposure to direct sunlight shouldn't harm your Koi Toy.

Because this video predates our jingle by several years. According to the upload date in the description on YouTube, we've had this product since at least 2008 when this video was posted.

The Koi Toy does not blow bubbles or water out of its mouth, as it is completely sealed up.

if it floats, why is the dude holding it?

In the photo he's holding it to point out the sealed bulb and battery. There are several times in the video where you can see the Koi Toy float on its own. There is a part where it is held by its top fin to make it "swim".

It does not have moving parts and does not swim on its own.

This fish looks mighty tasty. Is this koi toy edible? Or does it contain lead paint therefor making it unsafe for the mouth?

You should not eat the plastic Koi Toy. The Koi Toy does not contain any lead paint.
