Overview

Live in the moment with the Original Buddha Board. With just a dab of water, each stroke of the brush appears like black ink on the surface. Similar to watercolor painting, the Buddha Board produces soft, beautiful images. As the water slowly evaporates, your painting fades and a new blank canvas is revealed.

With the mentality of a Zen Buddhist, you're free to create pictures on a whim, without concern for the outcome. The Buddha Board is great for relaxing, clearing your thoughts, and is just plain fun. It's the perfect gift for the hard-to-shop-for.

Create an infinite number of paintings with the Buddha Board

The Buddha Board fully encapsulates the concept of "living in the moment". Dip the bamboo brush into water and start painting on the board. Your strokes will quickly appear in a rich black color reminiscent of watercolor paintings.

Don't become obsessed with the outcome, but instead enjoy the simple act of putting brush to board. As the water evaporates, your painting will fade away so that you may begin again.

Strokes magically disappear.
With the Buddha Board, you can enjoy the carefree act of painting without consequence.

Quick to setup and easy to use

There are three main pieces that make up the Standard Buddha Board: the board, the base, and the brush. Simply fill the base with water, rest the board in the notches of the base (either vertically or horizontally), and begin creating your temporary masterpiece.

For the Mini Buddha Board, the canvas is integrated into the hinged enclosure. Swing the case open, unclip the mini brush from its holder in the integrated base, and paint away using water from the reservoir under the board.

The mini Buddha Board folds up easily for travel while the standard Buddha Board can be oriented horizontally or vertically.
Meditative art is simple and easy with either style.

Find your zen on big or small canvases.

The Standard Buddha Board’s generously sized canvas and versatile orientation help you explore and create contemplative art with a water reservoir in the base and a bamboo brush.

The Mini Buddha Board folds into its own easel, enabling you to reflect on the ephemeral through art practically anywhere. Its smaller brush clips into the hinged lid while a trough below the canvas holds your water and collects drips.

Since the art on either board lasts for only a moment, they’re both capable of helping you create infinite art that expresses a singular moment in time.

Standard and Mini Buddha Boards
Both styles of Buddha Board are a meditation on the beauty of impermanence.

Question: What if I really like the painting? How do I "save" it from being erased?

Answer: You could take a photograph. However, please keep in mind that the purpose of the Buddha Board is to relax, clear your mind, and enjoy the painting process. The end result isn't important. And this is probably a good thing unless you're a budding Picasso.

Question: How many times can it be used?

Answer: The Buddha Board can be reused an infinite number of times. It does not get "worn out" from use.

Question: Do thicker brush strokes "last" longer?

Answer: The intensity and richness of the black color can be controlled by how much water is applied to the board. Wetter strokes will take longer to evaporate than relatively drier strokes.

Burning Questions: You Ask and We Answer

Burning Questions: You ask and we answer!
Your questions that have been answered by the Vat19.com staff:
How long does the "art" last for?
This depends on how lightly you paint on the Buddha Board. Extremely light, dry strokes could disappear in a 5-10 secondss. Darker, heavier strokes (which have more water) may take anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes to completely disappear.
is there a way that you can erase the image on the spot? like instead of waiting it to evaporate?
You could use a hair dryer to speed up the evaporation.
Can I color the water to make it "paint" that color? Or will it stay the same color (Black)?
Doing that will just leave a permanent stain on the board. There's no way to make the painting colorful without ruining the board.
Will using water thats been sitting out a day or two hurt it?
Letting the water sit out for a day or two will be fine. It just needs to be clean water.
woah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
totally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
will the paper get ridgy like there's air holes in it?
With normal use, the Buddha Board will not get air bubbles or ridges in it. Be sure to prevent the bottom of the board from sitting in water, as that could eventually cause the paper to pull away from the board.
What is the country of origin of the Buddha Board?
The Buddha Board is made in China.
Will the brushes brissles fall out over a long amount of years?
Yes, but the same thing will happen to any paint brush. Luckily, you can always buy another at your local art supply store.
Will the ink of the brush run out?
There is no actual ink in the brush. In fact, you could probably use any old brush with the Buddha Board. What makes your "paintings" appear is just water.
can you put different colors in the water?
We do not recommend it. Using colored water could stain the board.
Can i use my hands for painting?
Absolutely! Finger painting has never been so disappointingly clean.
Hey, I love your products but every time I find something I like my brother finds a way to tell me thats its stupid like for this he said the wood would rot if you put water in it please find me a way to tell him that this product is AWESOME.
Boats are made of wood and they don't rot. So are docks, diving boards, and skis. Obviously the brush and the base have been water treated and sealed.
What kind of water should I use?
Regular tap water should be fine.
What if you want to save the picture what do you do?
Take a picture, it'll last longer.
Do you guys get to play with all of your products whenever you want?
Well, we've got to work sometimes too, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't occasionally play around a little.
I've been told that the magic paper used on these boards tend to warp after a few uses. Can you give me an approximation of how many uses I can get out of this board before it warps? 20 uses? 40 or more? Also, do you supply replacement paper?
I've never personally had it happen. As long as you are careful not to over-saturate the board it shouldn't be a problem. The paper cannot be replaced.
Will both hot and cold water work in it?
Yes, though excessively hot water might ruin the Buddha Board. We recommend cold or room temperature water.
What happens to the board if you completely submerge it in water?
Not only will the board turn completely black (which is to be expected) but it can also permanently ruin the board.
Whats a d-bag?
D-bag is a polite way of abbreviating the word "douchebag".
I don't really understand what this is made of. Is it paper or is it wood? And does/can it tear? And could you, if you want, use your finger, or any other kind of utensil like a wet cloth for a cool effect? thanx :)
The manufacturer does not disclose the exact materials used to make the Buddha Board. The board is made of wood/paper material and it can tear or scratch if you use anything other than a soft and wet paintbrush. You can use your finger, although it is not recommended as human skin typically has oil on it and anything oil-based causes the surface of the board to stick, creating a permanent smudge. A wet cloth will work as long as it is a clean cloth.
Can food coloring be used to create different colors?
No. Food coloring would permanently stain the board.
How long does it take to evaporate on the mini in a average room temp?
About 10-15 minutes.
On average how long does it take to erase?
About 10-15 minutes.
Can you replace the bamboo paintbrush?
Sure. In fact, you can use any brush you want as long as it's able to get water onto the canvas. The brush itself has nothing to do with the way the canvas behaves when introduced to water.
How long does it take to evaporate?
Between 10 and 20 minutes. It depends on how much water needs to evaporate.
What would happen if you colored the water with coloring and then use it with the Buddha Board?
You would stain the Buddha Board and thus ruin it.
Is dust easy to clean off the board?
Yes, you can wipe it with a clean, damp cloth.
What would happen If I remove the board from the base while I'm drawing?
You'd have to hold the Buddha Board up yourself! The base does not need to be used, but it props the board up nicely like an easel.
How long does a typical drawing last? 30 seconds? 2 minutes?
About 10-15 mins!
Can you get different colors to "paint" on the Buddha Board? Also would getting paint on the board mess it up?
No, the Buddha Board cannot be made to display different colors. Paint would definitely ruin the board and defeat the entire purpose of the product.
Do I have to use the brush provided or can I use a paintbrush or my own bamboo brush?
Any paintbrush is fine, but make sure the new brush has been softened a little.
will it have color if you use water paint?
No. You will, however, stain and ruin the board.
Can we use our own brush that we have at home? Will it still work?
It's the water that affects the board, not the brush. You could use your finger if you wanted to.
Is the mini one portable for a backpack?
It could be!
About how long does it take for the board to dry up in room temp????
Between 10 and 20 minutes. It depends on how much water needs to evaporate.
How long on average does the water take to evaperate, for thin strokes, and for thick stocks?
It depends on how wet the board is, but on average it takes about 10-15 minutes to completely evaporate.
Is there a limited number of uses?
Nope! Your Buddha Board should last indefinitely with proper use and care.
how fast does the image disappear?
It depends on how wet the marks are. It usually takes about 10 minutes for the water marks to completely disappear.
How long does it fade away?
Depending on how much water you used, it could take 10-15 minutes for the water to begin evaporating enough for the slate to completely erase.
Would putting the brush in your mouth and then drawing on the Buddah Board work? P.S. I'm a huge fan of Vat19!!!!
It would probably work but it would be incredibly unsanitary. We recommend just using water.
How long does it take for the Buddha board’s ink (water) to disappear from the board or like dry?
Approximately 10-15 minutes.
Can I paint with something other than water like soda?
Only if you want to ruin your board.
Lost brush. Can I use a regular paint brush with my board?
Yes you can! Any brush will work with the Buddha Board.
If I put the Buddha Board in water will it become pitch black?
Yes but it can also irreversibly damage your Buddha Board.
If your brush breaks, or you fancy using a bigger brush, is it perfectly safe to swap to another brush? I love your guys' videos BTW! :D
You are free to use any brush you like with the Buddha Board.
What happens if I replace the water with hot sauce?
That would be a giant, spicy mess.
Does the mini one hold water?
There's a small reservoir at the bottom of the Mini Buddha Board that can hold water.
Why is it called the Buddha Board?
Among the teachings of the Buddha is the idea to let go of the physical nature of reality and to accept the impermanence of life. The idea here is to create, lose, and create again. The artwork is impermanent.
How sturdy is the board? Will it hold up if used to smack someone over the head?
Yes, although that isn't very nice.
Does it work with different brush sizes?
Yes! It would!
If kept in good condition how long will the mini last?
Indefinitely. They don't have expiration dates.
If you used real paint on this, what would happen?
You'd ruin the board of course. Paints, inks, or dyes would stain the board and not be able to be removed.
My cat destroyed the brush. Do you sell the brush separately?
No but there's no need to since any brush will work.
Where does the Mini store the water?
There's a small reservoir at the bottom of the canvas which can hold water.
What if we dip the Buddha board completely in water!! Will it ever evaporate again or can we ever use it again?
Saturating the board like that can permanently ruin it.
If you out a paper towel or something on it would u be able to turn it into a clean slate but removing the water?
Not really. The board would still be damp and you would have to wait for the rest to evaporate. It would make the board clear itself a lot faster but it wouldn't be instant.
Can you use the Aquabot Water Bottle Sprayer to write on the board?
You can use anything you want as long as it gets water onto the board. It's not as though the Buddha Board can tell where the water is coming from.
How long does it take for the water to evaporate in room temprature?
That depends on how much needs to evaporate. As we've mentioned previously, on average it takes about 10-15 minutes. Please note that this is only an estimate and is by no means a guarantee that it will only take 10-15 minutes.
if i was to use a blow dryer would that make the water evaporate faster making the color go away faster?
Of course. The board changes color because there is water on it. If the water isn't there then it changes back.
Does it wear out? Does it stop working after a certain amount on times used? Is it easily breakable?
No, it is not easily breakable. And as long as you follow the instructions for care and use, your Buddha Board should last for a long time.
Can using too much water on the board damage it?
You should be just fine using very heavy, watery strokes. They will take much longer to dry, but they will not damage the board. If you leave the board immersed in water, however, the paper could start to pull away from the board.
Are these kid friendly?
Sure! We don't see any reason why they wouldn't be.
How long does it take for the water to evaporate?
About 10-15 minutes on average. It will largely depend on how much water needs to evaporate.
Do you ship internationally? Because I'm in England and I really want one.
Yes, we ship internationally.
Does the water go back into the little container that holds water, or does it just do nothing an evaporate?
Excess water may drip into the container, but for the most part it will simply evaporate.
how long will it take for the drawing to come off? can i wipe the buddha board with a cloth if i want the drawing to be erased immediately?
About 10-15 minutes. You have to wait for the water to evaporate before the drawing disappears. Wiping it off will not "erase" the image.
Which is better cold water or warm water or hot water?
The temperature of the water makes no difference. We recommend using cool or room temperature water.
Can you use your finger as a brush?
Of course! The Buddha Board merely needs to be made wet to make marks.
Can you write japanese symbols? Because I'm practicing how to write them. btw i love vat19!
Thanks! You can draw any symbols, characters, or designs you like. The Buddha Board is particularly useful when learning Japanese calligraphy.
Does the water evaporate, or does it get absorbed by the Buddha Board? Does it feel wet to the touch after the water had evaporated?
As the board is paper-based, it becomes temporarily wet and then it evaporates. The board goes back to being dry once the water is evaporated but we don't recommend touching the board if you can help it due to the oils that fingers can have.
Will Vat-19 ever make these again but with color options?
Unfortunately, we are not the manufacturer, but we can pass along this suggestion to them!
Can you save it?
Like save the drawing you make? If you take a photo - once the water dries the drawing will disappear.
Does tea, soda, or Orange Juice work with it without ruining it?
All of those things can stain the Buddha Board. There is literally no reason to use anything other than water. If you want a permanent painting then this is not the product to do it with.
Will the paper tear or form air bubbles over a period of time?
Not on its own, no. If it's properly cared for you should be able to use your Buddha Board for years without incident.
How Long does it take for the water on the board to evaporate?
That depends on the amount of water on the board. Ten or so minutes seems to the average amount of time for all of the water to completely evaporate.
Will the water drip down off the board?
Not if you don't saturate the board. The board only needs a little bit of water to change color.
Is it possible to remove oil spatters from the board?
Not that we're aware of. You should probably avoid getting anything other than water on your Buddha Board in the first place as it could cause irreparable damage.
I want to buy something for my 12 year old sister,my budget is 20$ any suggestions?
Anything on this list would be a good bet. You can sort our products by price on the left-hand side of the site.
Will the brush get all hard and crusty after used multiple times because that's what happens to my painting brush sometimes. P.S I love your products! Keep it up!
Your paint brushes are getting hard and crusty because they're either really old or because you aren't getting all the paint out of the bristles. The Buddha Board does not use paint so this shouldn't be an issue.
What would happen if the board got extremely cold?
Cold enough to freeze the water you put on it? That could damage the Buddha Board. We can't think of too many reasons for your Buddha Board to get that cold though.
Where is the water kept for the mini board?
There is a small trough just beneath the painting surface which can be filled with water.
Is there a reason the board is not double sided? Seems it would be a cheap and easy way to greatly enhance your experience considering you have to wait for it to dry.
Because patience is a virtue that is highly regarded among the Zen masters.
What happens if I put the Buddha Board in water and it turns out all black, would I still be able to use it again? Would it worn out?
Soaking your Buddha Board could potentially ruin it.
If you use food coloring with water instead of plain water and paint on the board what would happen will it be the the color or just won't work?(this might take experimenting.)
Not only will it not work, but it will also stain the board permanently.
How long does it take to evaporate?....if you can't answer that question then how long did it take for you guys?
It depends on how wet the board is, but it usually takes 10-15 minutes to completely evaporate.
why is it Buddha Board if it's just a board wich you paint on ??????????????????????? :D
The reason why it's called the "Buddha Board" is because it encourages the artist to give up attachments to things that will not last. It's a Zen principle that can be applied in all aspects of your life.
Where is the Vat19 office?
We are located in St. Louis, Missouri.
Would this be good for kids so if they paint on stuff its just water?
That would be an excellent use of the Buddha Board. Because it uses only water, you do not need to worry about stains or ruined carpets.
Will It Ever Run Out? I Mean The Board.
No, the Buddha Board can be reused an infinite number of times. As long as you use it properly it does not get "worn out" from use.
No... no.. I meant how does it work? What happens inside the board?
The manufacturer does not disclose the inner workings of the Buddha Board. Sorry, it's a trade secret!
What happens if you use actual water color on it? Will the color stay there forever? :O
Only clean water can be used with the Buddha Board. Using water color or any kind of paint would stain it.
Can you take the mini Buddha on an airplane?
I can't see why not!
what are dimensions of mini board/
Mini board dimensions: 5” x 4 5/8” (12.7 cm x 11.75 cm)
Mini enclosure dimensions: 5 7/8” x 5 3/8” x 1/2” (14.92 cm x 13.65 cm x 1.27 cm)
Does the Buddha Board help you relax, or is it just a painting surface?
There's no reason why it can't do both!
If I live in a cold place, will the water take longer to be erased? And If the weather is too cold, can it be permanent?
We don't think that will be a problem since you can always just bring it indoors.
Does the small MINI one have a little area for the water to sit in?
Yes it does. There is a little water trough beneath the Buddha Board's painting surface.
Does the "Standard Buddha Board" come in a travel case or anything like that as shown somewhat for the mini? Or is the mini better for a travel situation?
It has the box that it comes in, but it doesn't have a special carrying case. If you plan on using your Buddha Board on a car or in a plane then you should probably take the mini.
Would you be able to draw pictures with a lot of detail with brush that is giving or will you need to use a smaller brush?
You can use any brush you like. If you require finer lines then you may want to use a smaller brush.
Do the bristles open? Because I'm studying Japanese calligraphy.
They do. You can catch a quick glimpse of this in the first few seconds of the video.
How long does it typically take for a simple drawing on the Buddha Board to evaporate?
Between 10 and 20 minutes. It depends on how much water needs to evaporate.
If you left it in the car, could it be ruined by getting too hot or too cold? What would make it break or bend?
Excessive heat may damage the Buddha Board, so be mindful of where you choose to store it.
What would happen if I were to douse the board in water?
You could ruin your Buddha Board.
Does buddha board uses ordinary tap water and turn it to ink?
The water does not turn into ink, but yes, you can use ordinary tap water.
Are you planning to make this in color?
No because it would be nearly impossible to do.
Can it be damaged if left out in the sun? will it yellow or crack or burn et cetera?
It's possible that it may discolor your board. We strongly recommend keeping your Buddha Board indoors and not leaving it outside for extended periods of time in direct sunlight.
What if you are still painting and the water has almost finish evaporating?
Maybe you could go a little more quickly or even go over areas you've already done before?
How long does the ink take to evaporate?
About 10-15 minutes depending on how wet it is.
Does the canvas have to rest on the base?
It doesn't have to rest on the included base, but it does make it a little easier to prop up. Also, the base can be used as a water reservoir to load your brush.
could you put food coloring in the water can you paint in different colors? if not, what would happen?
No, it could stain the board.
How long does the water take to full elaborate?
It depends on how wet the brush is when you apply it to the board, as well as the temperature/humidity of your surroundings. Typically not more than a few minutes.
Can kids draw with this?
Absolutely! This product can be used by kids and adults
is the standard size buddah board easily portable?
That depends on what you mean by "easily portable." Will it easily fit in a suitcase? Sure. Your pocket? Not so much.
what would happen if i licked it?
The spot you licked would change color, as it would with any other liquid.
Are there any returns for a product this big? And will I get my money back or just half
It will depend on the nature of the return. You can check out our return policy here.
How does it turn water to black kind of paint?
It's not the water that changes; it's the canvas.
what happens if you use real paint.
Then you will ruin your Buddha Board. If you want to use real paint, then you should buy a regular canvas and easel.
On the small size Buddha board does it have a water holder or do I need a glass of water next to me?
Both sizes have a water reservoir.
The water reservoir in the small one. Can water be kept there without leakage? Like can I paint with it and then just fold the canvas down and be done? Or do I need to empty it?
You will need to empty it. This shouldn't be a problem since clean water is pretty easy to come by.
I have lost the brushes. Will any "paint brush" replace them? Bamboo brush specifically? Can you supply??
You can use any brush you like. As long as the water finds its way to the board it doesn't matter what you use.
Does the board snap easily or is it strong?
The board is sturdy. There aren't any normal circumstances where your Buddha Board will be bent or snapped, so as long as you aren't intentionally doing either of those things you will never have to worry about damaging it.
Can you use a different paint brush then the one that comes withit ?
Sure. You can use whatever you want as long as the water ends up on the board.
What happens if I press on it too hard?
You'd have to press the board pretty hard to actually damage it, but there really isn't any reason to be pressing on the board in the first place.
Could you use a regular brush on the buddha board? And could you use like a cup and drizzle it on the board or something?
You can use whatever you want. The board is reacting to the water, not the brush.
What are the features of the mini Buddha board?
It's smaller. Apart from that it's functionally the same as the larger board.
Can you use other brushes on it or does it only work with the one?
Any brush will work. It's the water that changes the color of the board, not the brush.
If i wet my brush alot of times and make the board compleatly black, will it still evaporate?
Saturating the board can actually damage your Buddha Board, but yes, water still evaporates even when there is a lot of it.
If you were painting a very detailed picture, and it took you a long time, could some of your previous marks "erase" before you finish your painting?
It could. So you'll have to either work fast or paint something a little less elaborate.
I had one of these once, but the brush broke will this one break?
Not unless you use it improperly somehow. The included brush isn't really that important since any brush will work.
How long will it take for just a stroke to dissapear?
That depends on how wet the mark is. Generally speaking, 10 minutes is about how long it takes for the water to completely evaporate.
If you use a lot of water each stoke will it ruin it?
It is possible to ruin the Buddha Board by getting it soaking wet. You should only need to dip your brush in the water a little bit to get a clear stroke on the board.
I want to get one for my mother in-law who lives in the country who has well water and has a mineral taset to it. is that ok or should she use something else like bottled spring water or distilled water, and do they help or hurt the board? Thank you.
The hardness of water shouldn't have any affect on the Buddha Board, but you may want to play it safe and use bottled or filtered water.
Can you use watercolors (like the KOi watercolor set) on the board? I dont want to damage it but colors would be more fun.
Watercolors would permanently stain your Buddha Board.
If your painting a intricate painting, would it slowly disappear before I finished?
There are a lot of factors that contribute to the life of the "painting", but in our experience an entire painting that takes 10 minutes to paint would not be intact by the end of the 10 minutes. It's inevitable that some part of it will start to evaporate even though it could take 10-20 minutes for a painting to completely evaporate if the brush strokes were pretty wet.
is this like some other boards where, if it takes you about 10 minutes to finish a painting, it will dry out before you can finish?
There are a lot of factors that contribute to the life of the "painting", but in our experience an entire painting that takes 10 minutes to paint would not be intact by the end of the 10 minutes. It's inevitable that some part of it will start to evaporate even, though it could take 10-20 minutes for a painting to completely evaporate if the brush strokes were pretty wet.
Is there anyway to make the picture go away faster after you get done painting? oh and by the LOVE the website :)
Blowing on the picture or using a fan would probably make the image disappear more quickly. And thanks!
Can i replace the paper if it fades or gets ripped?
No, the Buddha Board's surface cannot be replaced.
Do we have to use the base or can we put it in a binder for school?
You don't have to use the base (although it props the board up nicely and holds the water conveniently!) but putting the Buddha Board in a binder could scratch it, so we don't recommend it.
how much doea shipping cost? (bc i live in europe)
It depends on your location, and the shipping speed you select. There's a shipping calculator on our website when you check out that will assist you!
Is it safe to use on an airplane?
I can't see why not, as it just takes water to paint on the board. (TSA restrictions on liquids you can carry through security may still apply)
Does it come with the brush?
Yes it does!
What does the brush made by?
Bamboo
There is no videos of you using the mini so how can I tell how big it is
No but there are photos of us holding one as well as the exact dimensions in the description at the top of the page.
Hi so the minis plastic is durable right
It's exactly as durable as it needs to be. Obviously we don't recommend stomping on it or anything.
What will happen if u close the mini one with water in it?
You'll spill the water. Not much else could happen.
Can you use other liquids on the Buddha Board?
Not without potentially ruining or staining the board. There is absolutely no reason to use anything other than water.
on amazon most of these boards take less than 1-2 minutes to evaporate(which i don't like). Have you tested officially that the water can take 10-15 minutes to disappear?
All of the information on our website comes from our own experiences with the product. It will ultimately depend on how much water is on the board, but generally speaking, it takes about 10-15 minutes for the water to completely evaporate.
Can you color in a different color?
No. The Buddha Board is monochromatic and can only turn black.
How long would it take to ship to England?
That will depend entirely on the shipping method you choose when you check out. You can view the available shipping methods by either clicking the "Calculate Shipping" link near the top of the page or by simply adding the items you want to your cart. In that regard our website isn't that different from any other online retailer.
Would a heat source (hair dryer, heater, or fire) speed up the evaporation process?
Water will obviously evaporate more quickly if you increase the temperature, however in this case you'll run the risk of potentially damaging your Buddha Board. If you want to speed things up you only need moving air; it doesn't have to be hot.
Do you ship to the UK?
Yes, we ship internationally.
Lets say you need to erase something fast. How would you do that?
Maybe a hair dryer? You could also just scribble over whatever you've drawn or written.

If you feel like you're going to need to do that often, or if you want to keep whatever you've drawn, then maybe you should look for a canvas that meets your needs naturally rather than by being forced.
Where can you keep/store the Buhda Board? I don't want this Randomly Awesome Creation to be destroyed.
Pretty much anywhere. There are no special storage instructions for the Buddha Board.
What if you use food color in the water will it work on the buddha board?
At that point you'd just be painting. The food coloring would stain the board.
How do you send fan art?
You can send fan art to:

Vat19 Fan Mail
11783 Borman Drive
St. Louis, MO 63146
What will happen if you put it in the freezer?
You could actually damage your Buddha Board. If you want your painting to last, use paint. The whole point of this product is to NOT keep the painting.
How long does it take for the water to evaporate on the Buddha board?
It depends on how wet the board is, but usually the image lasts for about 10-15 minutes.
Do you ship to Qatar?
Yes, as we ship internationally.
Does this have any chemicals in it? If so, will it harm anyone?
No, none whatsoever.
Won't the side "paint" drip off?And not go into the base?
You shouldn't be using so much water that it drips down the canvas.
How many times can I paint on it before I over-saturate it?
You can paint on the Buddha board an indefinite number of times. If it's already black and you're still adding more water, not only are you wasting your time, but only then would you be oversaturating it.
Does the Buddha board come with the bamboo brush? By the way, your spam test is "awesome!"
Yes, the brush is included with the Buddha Board. You can also use your own brushes or even your finger!
Would finger painting work? Also how do we send you fan mail?(I want to)
You can paint with whatever you like just as long as the water can come into contact with the board.
1. What would happen if you used this in a humid environment? 2. So if you did paint on it for a while, it will become over saturated?
1. How humid are we talking? If it's so humid that the air is literally misty, obviously it would be difficult to use the Buddha Board. 2. Yes, and doing so could damage the Buddha Board.
Why does getting it "soaking wet" ruin it? Does too much water cause it to permanently turn black?
That's exactly right, which is why we say not to do it.
what if u leave it out in rain all night? not like i would do that.
You'd probably ruin your Buddha Board.
Can you use other brushes on the board?
You can use any style or size brush with the Buddha Board that you like.
Lots of people are asking if submerging it is bad for it, and I know it is bad for it, but what if you painted the whole board with the brush? Would it be okay for the board? BTW your videos are awesome! vat19 rocks!
It'd probably be fine, but you really want to avoid saturating the board with water.
Can the board break if pressed too hard from the brush?
The brush alone wouldn't break the board, but you shouldn't ever need to jab the board either.
What if I want to erase an image immediately without waiting for it to dry? Can I use a cloth or blow on the board?
Blowing on it might speed up the drying process a little bit, but it would be a little more Zen-like to accept your error and incorporate it into your creation.
Does food coloring in water stain the Buddha Board?
Yes, adding coloring to the water could permanently stain your Buddha Board.
Will high humidity levels damage the board? Like for example Taiwan and Hong Kong's 70-80% humidity levels.
The manufacturer said it is hard to say if anything would happen, but they think it is possible that long-term humidity could warp the board a bit since it is paper-based.
how do you clean it if you cant use water? like if it gets dusty or something.
You can use a wet cloth to clean it. The board just should not be submerged in water; wiping it down with water and a clean cloth is OK.
Will a hairdryer make the picture disappear quicker? Or will it ruin the board?
Air blowing on the board will cause the water to dry faster and the picture to disappear faster, but we suggest just letting it air dry.
Does the buddah board ship out of the US?
Yes, we ship internationally.
How long does it take for the minis ink to dry?
The same amount of time as the full size version, which is however long it takes for the amount of water you've used to evaporate.
How do I erase an accident?
There are no "accidents." You just have to work around it.
If you break the Buddha board open will there be anything in it?
No. Breaking it open would just be a waste of money.
What if you draw something on it that you want to display forever and then it just all disappears?
You can either take a picture or simply not draw it on something that you know will disappear.
Would the surface of the Buddha Board ever wear down and render it unusable?
Not when cared for properly. The Buddha Boards we received while shooting this video years ago still work great!
Can I pay for the stuff I want with UAE Dirhams or do I have to pay with American Dollars?
We do not accept cash of any kind. Our site will automatically charge the correct amount to your credit card, PayPal, or Amazon account when you check out online.
Can you spray water on the board?
Sure. It doesn't really matter how you get the water onto the board.
How does it work (like in physics)?
Physics isn't really the field of science you'd use to explain how a Buddha board works; chemistry would probably be better.

Basically, the water makes the thin, opaque surface of the Buddha Board translucent and thereby allow the black substrate to show through.
Will different liquids (Soda, Juice, coffee) stain the Buddha Board?
Yes. There's really no reason to use anything other than water since anything else will permanently stain the surface. If you don't want your creation to fade, then the Buddha Board might not be for you.
How do you empty the water out on the Mini Buddha Board? I don't know if pouring it out is the best way...
Not only is it the best way, but it's also the only way unless you have some sort of suction device.
Is the "Bamboo" brush really made out of bamboo?
That is correct.
How can I save what I draw to show to my brother for 1 hour?
By drawing it on something that doesn't disappear. You can also try taking a photograph.
How does it work, how does the water turn up black?
The board turns black, not the water. Unfortunately we can't give away the secret of how the Buddha Board works.
Can you draw outside when it is hot?
Sure!
Hi, a few questions: 1- Will the white coating that reappears after drawing eventually not reappear? 2- If I wiped the board with a dry towel, it become clean, or will it just be dry and still black? 3- Does the mini one have a brush cavity? ~Thanks
With proper care your Buddha Board will last for many, many years. The board will remain black as long as it is still moist; a towel is not enough to get up all the moisture. Yes, the brush can be stored in the Mini's water trough.
What would happen if I pour water onto it or submerge it underwater.
You could ruin your Buddha Board by oversaturating it with water.
can you use the brush included with regular paint and it will still work with water???
You can use any brush that you like. It's the water that counts!
umm, does it works with any brush?
Yes, any brush will work just fine with the Buddha Board.
Hi,I want to buy this but how much it weighs? Please!
Approximately 32 ounces in the package. Obviously this doesn't include the additional weight that will be gained when the base is filled with water.
what if your buddha board is broken when you get it or is that even possible
We take great care to make sure the products we send out are packaged properly so they arrive in perfect condition. Unfortunately, damage does sometimes occur. If your product arrives damaged, please contact us immediately.
What will happen if I dump the board in water?
You could potentially ruin your Buddha Board by saturating it like that.
Im just wondering if i have to use the included bamboo brush so it works?
Nope. You can use any brush you like since it's the water that actually leaves the mark.
Can we take tours of the Vat19 office?
As much as we'd love to, unfortunately we aren't able to give tours of our office or studio.
If I drop the buddha board into water but quickly pick it up, will it cause any serious damage?
Submerging your Buddha Board can damage it permanently. You probably shouldn't use it anywhere it can fall into water.
Does it matter if I use COLD or HOT water? or should it be room temp?
Cold to room-temperature water is fine, though we wouldn't recommend using hot water.
You said submerging it in water will damage it, but is it also possible to damage it by loading your brush up with too much water? Do you need to be careful?
You probably don't need to worry about overloading the brush with water, but you don't want to make the Buddha Board sopping wet.
HI! Can you use a different kind a brush with this kit just in case the brush breaks, is there any warranty?
Any brush is fine. It's just always important to ensure a new brush has been softened a little. The Buddha Board and brush do not have a warranty.
Which one do you recommend mini or full size
That's up to you. We recommend getting the one that you feel best suits your needs.
I accidently dropped my buddha board in water. Is it ruined?
Full submersion can ruin a Buddha Board but only you can answer if that is the case here. Does it still work? If so, then no, it is not ruined.
how is the mini different from the standard?
It's smaller and has an attached base. Apart from that there is no difference.
Will you ever make a small version of the Standard size style instead of the portable small one?
We're not the manufacturer, so unfortunately we can't make anything. That being said we aren't aware of any intentions to introduce another size/style. The biggest problem with adding yet another size is that it would cut into the sales of the existing models.
If you use food coloring, marker ink, or any type of color, will the painting that you draw come in color? Also is there any other color than black that you can have when you use water to paint?
Using ink, food coloring, or paint will leave a permanent stain on the board. At that point you might as well just get a regular easel and canvas.
Will you ever sell bonsai trees? If so, then how much (approximately) will they cost
Bonsai is an art form, not a particular tree. What you're thinking of are the skillfully manicured white pines that are traditionally used in the art of bonsai. We don't have any plans to carry that particular tree but we do have a bonsai set which uses the dawn redwood tree.
Does the Mini have sheets of actual paper that you can remove or is the paper just glued to the board?
Neither style has sheets that can be removed from the board because the main feature of the Buddha Board is that the images disappear after a few minutes. There's no need to ever actually remove or replace the "painting" surface.
Do you ship to Pakistan?
We're sorry but none of our couriers offer shipping to Pakistan. Here you can view a complete list of all the countries to which we offer shipping.
Do you ship to India?
Yes, we ship internationally.
Can the boards be used in cars?
As longs as the car isn't doing an excessive amount of swerving, sure!
Does it work with any water?
What other kinds of water would you use? We suggest using tap or bottled water.
Can you draw on it in extreme heat?
Sure, though I don't know why you'd be in extreme heat.
What will happen if I dip the Buddha board in a tub of water?
You run the risk of permanently ruining your Buddha Board.
How can I paint the entire board without it disappearing?
By doing it quickly!
If you add food coloring to the water, will it produce that color on the Buddha Board?
Yes, but it will also permanently stain the board and ruin it.
At the art store near my house, they have one of these on display. There's a sign that says it won't last much longer, and it's very worn out. You have to add several layers of water to get anything to show up. How long will this last?
With proper care it should last indefinitely. Bear in mind that the display model you saw has probably been used and abused by hundreds of people each day.
is it possible to make one that paints color?
No, sorry. If you want color, we suggest using real paints.
I want to buy this product, also as a few other products. But do you ship your items to Australia?
Yes, we ship internationally!
Would this fit in the prank boxes you sell on your website? Thanks!
The Buddha Board is just a little too large to fit in a Prank Pack. Sorry!
Hey, I absolutally love the idea of a Buddha board... But I am not to psyched about the name... Just for me, do you have any weird vat19 creative replacement name?
We think it's a perfect name, actually. The Buddha taught to let go of our materialistic lifestyle and to focus on the impermanence that is life.
What if I don't want my painting to fade? What will I do then??
Then this product isn't really for you since there's no way to keep your "painting". I would suggest a regular easel and paints.
If the manufacturer doesn't tell you how the board is made or how it works, how do you know that it's safe?
Because of the innumerable inspections and regulations necessary to get a product on the market. We can assure you that the Buddha Board is 100% safe.
Why do people constantly ask if they can use dye in the water?
I think many of those questions come from simply not knowing exactly how the Buddha Board works.
How long does it take for the painting on the board to completely go away?
It depends on how much water you use, though on average a painting should fully vanish in about 10-15 minutes.
How does it turn black if its just water?
Magic! Honestly, the manufacturer does not disclose the secrets of how the Buddha Board works.
Cleaning? You can only use water to "paint", so how about cleaning? Would I have to use a transparent basic anti bacterial liquid? Or is the only way to clean it a dry microfiber cloth?
You can use a wet cloth to clean it. The board just should not be submerged in water; wiping it down with water and a clean cloth is OK.
Why is it called the Buddha Board?
The name reflects the Eastern style of this product, as well as the Zen-like practice of not becoming attached to physical belongings.
is the brush sturdy? like will it break if you press too hard on the board? P.S. You guys are AWESOME!
The brush is pretty sturdy. We had no problems with it and have not had any reports of it breaking while in use.
can you use normal tap water? or do you have to use filtered water.
It just needs to be clean water; it does not have to be filtered.
if you paint and then froze the board would that make it permanent?
That would not make the painting permanent, but the manufacturer tested this and it does cause minor damage to the board - when you paint over the spots that were frozen you can still faintly see it.
what happen if it falls with me into a pool?
Chlorine is a caustic chemical, so it could damage the Buddha Board. The board should not be submerged in water either.
Can one lay the board flat on the table?
Yep. You do not have to use the stand.
Could I use my finger to paint on the Buddha board?
Although using your finger would work, it is not recommended because oil from skin can leave smudges on the board. It's best to use the included brush.
How does it work?
You simply paint on the Buddha Board's special surface with water and the painting darkens. Then, as the water slowly evaporates, your art will magically disappear leaving you with a clean slate so you can create a new masterpiece.
what would happen if my Buddha Board caught on fire?
The Buddha Board is made of wood based materials, so it would burn.
will the price ever get cheaper for canadians?
Maybe not of the item, but we do now offer free shipping to Canada!
Will vat 19 ever ever have a medium sized board?
There are no plans for one.
Does the Buddha Board need to be put in the sun to dry?
No. It only takes a few minutes to dry.
Can we use faucet water and use a different paint brush?
Yes.
Which Size do you recommend getting for an 11 year old child?
Whichever they prefer. The only difference is the size of the board, so ultimately it will come down simply to how much room you have to spare.
Could the mini be put on a tray table of a normal airplane for a long-haul flight? Plus can you bring it on an airplane?
Absolutely!
How does the buddha board work?? Its awesome how the water makes black ink that can disappear with time
Equal parts science and magic. If you think about what happens to paper when it gets wet, then you'll be on the right track to figuring it out.
IS the buddha bourd like a white bourd.
They're similar in that they're both white, but that's the extent of it. They are not made from the same materials, nor are they used in the same way.
How durable is the board (mini)
As durable as a painting surface needs to be. Don't be abusive or throw it around, and you'll have nothing to worry about.
Where does the product ship from? Is there enough time to order one for Christmas?
All orders are shipped from our warehouse in St. Louis, but how long they will take to arrive will depend entirely on the shipping method you choose. To see which shipping options are available, as well as how much they cost and when they're expected to arrive, simply add the items you want to your cart and use the shipping calculator there.
Do you have a XXXL version?
The only varieties we carry are those shown at the top of the page.
I have a pink and red board and i want to get another. Do you only sell black ones or do you sell both?
We only sell black Buddha Boards.
Is it because water increase the absorption of light, so the surface on top doesn't reflect as much light as it should be. Or maybe it's because the board is comprised of 2 sections: the white opaque layer and the dark one?
The latter. Maybe I'm dating myself here, but when I was a kid in the early 1980s I had a drawing pad that was made of semi-transparent plastic attached to a dark background. When you applied pressure to the top layer, the two would stick and the darker layer would show through, allowing you to draw an image. It's pretty much the same thing at work here albeit far better looking.
Can you make splatters with the water on the board?
Sure. The board will change color when exposed to water, so it doesn't really matter how the water gets on the board.
How did you make the water evaporate?Does the temp. of the enviorment that the artist is in matter?
Water evaporates naturally. There's no trick to it.
Does it run out of ink?
The Buddha Board does not use ink, so it can't run out. The water changes the color of board itself.
The black part of the outside case of my Buddha Board has become very sticky. Is there a way to clean it without damage? (The front and back of my removable Buddha Board are fine.
We would recommend using a damp cloth to clean the outside of the case.
How much does the Standard Buddha Board weigh? I saw a video of some of your other products on Youtube. It gave me a great chuckle. Thanks!
The Buddha Board weighs approximately 31 ounces.
About how many years does the buddha board last?
With proper care your Buddha Board will last indefinitely.
What kind of water do you use? Tap water? Bottled water?
Any kind of water will work with the Buddha Board.
I love drawing and doodling and I`m always looking for new ways to occupy myself in my free time is the mini a good thing for me to buy.
We can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be. The Buddha Board, after all, is made for exactly that purpose.
Does the mini buhda board come with the art brush that is shown. Or do you have to get your own paint brush
It does come with a brush, but you are welcome to use any brush you like.
How long does it take to the drawing to go away?
It depends on how wet the board is and how warm the room is, but usually about 10-15 minutes.
Can I use a different paint brush?
Yes you may! In fact, you don't even need to use a brush at all as long as the water ends up on the Buddha Board.
Is this safe for kids? Can you buys a colorful version? This is an AWESOMESAUCE product!
Thanks! Yes, it's perfectly safe for children (it's just water). Colorful versions are not available.
Can you use your finger to paint/draw on it? Like dip your finger in the water?
You can use anything you want as long as the water ends up on the tablet. The water is what's important, not the brush.
How does the Buddha Board make look like it black ink?
Magic!
Can you use any paint brush with your Buddha board?
Yes, any brush will work. It's the water that is doing all of the work!
How long will the ink last on the board?
It's not ink, it's water. It depends on how wet the board is, but usually the image lasts for about 10-15 minutes.
Will The Board Rip Easily? (I.e: You Drop It Accidentally) Will It Rip...?
Not necessarily. Simply dropping it isn't going to cause the surface to be marred, but if you were to throw it at a corner of a wall or something you might mar it.
Will the Buddha Board break or stop working if it stands in direct sunlight for a long time?
Not that we're aware of. Really the best way to damage your Buddha Board is to over-saturate it with water.
How does it work? I mean, is it some kind of chemical reaction that makes the water go black? In that case, it would eventually run out of reagents, if a certain part of the board were written over too many times, right?
I can't say exactly how it works, but it's not a chemical reaction. It's sort of like an Etch-a-Sketch, but in reverse and moist.
Is the actual board paper or is it something else? Could you wipe it off like a dry erase board or would that ruin it? Also, you guys have the coolest way to test spam :D
It wouldn't ruin the board, but it wouldn't do any good either. The board has to dry to be clear.
What happens if you over saturate it? Will it ruin it?
Yes, that is correct.
Not to be weird, but who is the artist in the video?
That would be Jon. His talent knows no bounds.
How can I buy in from Mexico?
You can place an order online, as we do offer shipping to Mexico.
What if I get a spray bottle and spray the board would it splatter everywhere?
It would probably create a spray/splash pattern on the Buddha Board. It's important to note that over-saturating the board can ruin it.
Do I have to put the Buddha board on the water-holder or could I paint on it when it's just laying flat on the ground... you know, in case I want to paint when I'm laying on my belly. It doesn't matter, right? PS: You guys are so awesome and funny!
You don't have to have the Buddha Board on the stand. The stand just makes it convenient because the water is right where you need it and it props up the board.
What is some sort of a question that has the answer: "Everyone make sure you don't get non-water liquids on the buddha board. Oils can stain it." ?
Can I used something other than water to draw on the Buddha Board?
what if you're drawing a very long picture wouldn't the water start to fall down?
As you can see in our video, you can make a big and detailed drawing before the water begins to evaporate and your painting fades away. You can use the sheet of plastic packaging to set your Buddha Board and stand on to catch any drips. Or use something more decorative like a placemat!
how long will it take for the water to evaporate?
It depends on how much water you use when you paint. With a drier brush and lighter strokes, your painting will disappear much more quickly. If you use a lot of water for very thick lines, it will take much longer to disappear.
How big is the stander and mini
We list this information in the "Features & Specs" section. Original Board dimensions: 9 1/2" x 12" x 1/8" (24.13 cm x 30.48 cm x 0.32) Original Base dimensions: 6" x 4 1/2" x 1 3/4" (15.24 cm x 11.43 cm x 4.45) Original Bamboo brush length: 8" (20.32 cm) Mini board dimensions: 5” x 4 5/8” (12.7 cm x 11.75 cm) Mini enclosure dimensions: 5 7/8” x 5 3/8” x 1/2” (14.92 cm x 13.65 cm x 1.27 cm) Mini brush length: 5” (12.7 cm)
Hi! Is this nice for calligraphy?
Hello! This would be a nice practice board for calligraphy!
whats the best size to get a 2 year old
I would go with the standard size.
Does the big Buddha board hold more water than the small one.
Yes it does, being physically larger and with a larger reservoir.
So, is the secret in the brush or the board?
The board. This is a little more clear in the video we've included on the page above.
Any chance there is a way of removing felt pen on the board?
Not that we're aware of. The Buddha Board has a paper-like surface which will absorb ink just like regular paper.
Why would I want my masterpieces to disappear? To save money and space?
Or use it as a means to contemplate the impermanence of all things?
Stain with light Asian black. How do ire move it Would dilute oxiclean or other cleaning solution remove it or it might destroy the surface? I am an art teacher with the Buddha board. Please help!!
It would ruin the surface even further. There's absolutely no reason to use anything other than water on the Buddha Board.
why are like 20 products retired?(P.S your products ore amazing!)
For the same reason why you won't find last season's bags at the Coach store or Star Wars figures from 1997 at Target -- they've been discontinued so that the manufacturer can move on to other products.

Sometimes it's even because the manufacturer has gone out of business entirely. Either way, there aren't too many stores which carry the same products forever.
How much does it cost to ship it to Europe?
That will depend on the shipping method you choose during checkout. Feel free to click the "Calculate Shipping" link near the top of the page for shipping quotes.
How long does the board last?
With proper care and use the Buddha Board should last indefinitely.
What would happen if you used washable markers on the canvas would it come off? Btw love the website and all of your products :))
No. Markers of any kind will ruin your Buddha Board.
How does the mini work?
Exactly the same as the larger Buddha Board -- just smaller!
Can you have it outside in the shade? Will that ruin it?
Not that we're aware of.
How many years can it be used?
With proper care your Buddha Board should last indefinitely. It doesn't have an expiration date or anything.
my board was splashed with salad dressing. where can I get the board?
The board is not sold separately, as it is basically the entire product. If you ruin your Buddha Board you'll have to buy a whole new set.
Does the Buddha board have ink or paint or it's just water
It's just water. Check out the video for a demonstration!
What happens if you color the water (ex: red, blue)?
You'll stain the board and ruin it.
I saw the video. It looks so cool. What happens if you splash a lot of water in it? Will it be permanent or something?
Too much water can ruin the Buddha Board. Large splashes of water would simply turn the board black.
Will you ever have a sale??
We don't usually run sales, however we send out coupons in each installment of our free email newsletter.
Hi so can you use this thousands of times without buying a new one ? :)
With proper care it is certainly possible!
Can I use a spray bottle, filled with water and use it on the board?
You can, but it might saturate and ruin the board if you spray too much.
Do you guys ship these to South Korea because some company's only do it in some places.
Yes, we are able to ship Buddha Boards internationally.
Will it work with salt water?
It will work with any sort of moisture, but using anything other than regular tap water may damage the board.
Will it ever get "worn out" like, if you draw on it a lot?
The manufacturer officially gives the Buddha Board a lifespan of 5 years due to the constant application of water to the board material and other wear-and-tear.
Could you dry the Buddha board with a hair dryer?
You could use a hair dryer to speed up the evaporation. Just be careful not to burn it!
Is it possible to erase your painting?
Not in the conventional sense, but if you wait for a few minutes the water will evaporate and your "painting" will disappear.
If I used one of my own brushes (bought from China by the way), would the water somehow ruin the bristles of the brush? (Making it spread out)
Most brushes are able to withstand water. You do not have to use the included brush.
Would this be a good idea to give to someone in a hospital as a get better soon gift?
I would love a gift like this if I were stuck in a hospital bed. The buddha Board isn't messy and can keep a person in that situation involved for hours.
Could i write Futhark Runes on this?
Futhark, Anglo-Frisian, and Dalecarlian runes are all perfectly compatible with the Buddha Board.
In how many seconds will the ink disappear?
It depends on how wet you make the Buddha Board, but it usually completely evaporates in about 10-15 minutes.
What makes the buddha board have black paint when you mark it with the brush?
Sorry, but the manufacturer will not disclose exactly how the Buddha Board works or what it is made of.
What is that thing that keeps on getting painted in the video? In the beginning and end? Also, its in one of the photos? It looks like a pepper.
It's actually the Buddha Board insignia, which is a stylistic depiction of the Buddha sitting in the lotus position.
How long does it take for the board to be be clear again after painting?
It depends on how much water you used for your brushstrokes.
Does the Buddha Board contain alien technology?
Not to my knowledge.
why will the "paper" peel off if left submerged?
It can. The Buddha Board should not be submerged in water.
How does this work without ink? Is there something in the paper?
Yep, the water makes the "writing" show up on the board. But the manufacturer won't disclose exactly how the Buddha Board works.
what happens if you want to keep the picture u paint?
If you really love a picture you paint, we suggest taking a photo. There's really no other way to "keep" it. Unless you very quickly paint over it with actual paint. But then you've ruined the Buddha Board.
If you blow dry it, would it harm the board?
The manufacturer has tried it to speed up the drying process, but they warn to use a cool or low heat setting and to keep the blow dryer a good distance from the board. Holding it too close or getting it too hot could damaged the board, so they don't really recommend doing this.
Do you ship to Brazil ?
Yes, we do.
What would happen if I remove the board from the base while I'm drawing?
The base props up the board, conveniently stores your water, and holds the brush, but you do not have to use the base with the Buddha Board.
How long will a average picture last before it "disappears"?
That all depends on how much water you use. If your brush is relatively dry, an image may disappear in as little as 30 seconds. Really wet paintings may last 15 minutes. So, I guess the average painting would last about 5 minutes.
If you painted it and then froze it, would it stay that painting. Please and, thank you.
Honestly, we're not sure. Perhaps you'd like to order one and find out, wink wink? Seriously, though, if you ever wish to save a painting, we suggest you simply take a photo.
How much water can the Original Buddha Board hold and how much can the Mini hold? I would like to compare the two so please awnser in oz.
I don't have two open Buddha Boards to measure this for you, but as you can see from the pictures the difference in size is considerable. The full-size Buddha Board has that entire box which can be filled with water, while the mini version only has that tiny plastic trough.
Can you make a demo video for the mini?
Probably not. It works exactly the same way as the original.
Would this be recommendable for practice, or just for fiddling with the surface with no firm purpose in mind?
Why not both?
I would to know the weight of each Buddha Board.
31.7 ounces for the larger Buddha Board and 6.2 ounce for the smaller.
Is this a toddler safe product? My toddler loves her kiddie easel, and would absolutely adore something like this.
Not without adult supervision. The board isn't toxic or anything, but it is somewhat delicate and can be ruined if abused by someone who hasn't mastered their fine/gross motor skills yet.
Which one do you perfer mini or original Honestly here I don't want to hear the answer that'll make you more money I want the TRUE HONEST ANWER thank you ??????
They're both identical in terms of performance. Which one is "better" depends on how much space you have on your desk and which size best suits your needs.
what is the canvas made of? it seems magical
You nailed it. The canvas is made entirely of magic.
Will the Buddha board stop working eventually? ( like a century later)? And also you are awesome!
Maybe, but by that point you'll be too "not alive" to care.
Can i trust your website?
Absolutely. We list our credentials on our site, such as our status as a Google Trusted Store.
1. Can this be sendt to norway? 2.how MUCH will it cost?
Yes, we ship internationally. The cost of shipping will depend on the shipping method you choose when you check out online.
Ie someone uses a pen on the board can you clean it off? If so how?
No. Doing that would cause irreparable damage to your Buddha Board.
Can you fingerpaint with it?
Sure. You can use anything you like as long as the water ends up on the board itself.
How do you fix an oversaturated board?
You can't if it's already ruined. If it's too wet we suggest dabbing as much excess water as you can.
How long does it take to "erase" what we draw?
About 10-15 minutes depending on the ambient temperature and humidity.
can you use any type of brush to paint?
Yep! You can even use your finger.
So if you dipped the board in water, would a portion of the board be black?
Yes. It might also ruin the Buddha Board.
How does the board turn the water into black??? But this is pretty awesome!!!
It's magic!
What would happen if I "accidentally" dropped the buddha board in water?
You could potentially ruin it. There's really no reason for that to "accidentally" happen unless you're getting your water from a well.
Can you paint with your fingers?
You can paint with anything you like as long as it gets water onto the board!
When will you make a portable version?
We're not the manufacturer, so unfortunately we can't make anything. The Buddha Board is already portable in that it is lightweight and can be set up anywhere.
Would this product do well for an artistic 10 year old?
One would certainly assume so!
Is the Buddha board actually paper, or it's just a slate?
A little bit of both, actually.
I loooooooved the budah board but after 9 days i could not draw on it anymore with water it just didn't react and my parents told me we cant buy a new one what shold ido (i did paint just with the bambo brush and with clean water)
It's difficult to say. It sounds like the board might have been damaged by being over-saturated with water. Unfortunately there is no way to "fix" a Buddha Board that has been damaged.
Why does it go black when we add water?
It's magic!
When the water is applied to the board and some of it drips off, would the water still be safe to drink?
Since it's not meant to be eaten or licked, the Buddha Board is not foodsafe. Besides, why on earth would you even consider doing something like that when you clearly have access to drinking water?
Wow long will the buddha board last?
With proper care and handling? Indefinitely.
Like in the video, does the "ink" dries that fast?
There's no ink. The water is making the board change color. Everything you see in the video (except the scene of the water evaporating) is in real time.
The board isnt staying in place. It keeps back out of the holder. What can i do?
Make sure that the board is completely inserted into the grooves on the base. Also remember that you do not have to use any pressure at all to make the markings appear.
So can you use any brush to draw with?
That is correct. It's the water which causes the color to change, not the brush.
About how long does it take to evaporate?
It depends on how wet the board is, but on average it takes about 10-15 minutes to fully dry.
Is there anything toxic? IE. Would it be suitable for toddlers? Thanks!
There's nothing toxic in the Buddha Board, but the Buddha Board is relatively fragile. We would suggest waiting until your kids are a little older.
How forceful should i stroke if i want it to last longer?
Force has nothing to do with it. The color comes from the board being wet.
Would it be bad to stay in heat/sun?
Not necessarily. The board is activated by water, not light or heat.
Is there any other ink colors, like if you used pomegranate juice, would there be red ink?
No. That would just stain the board. It's the board that changes color, not the water.
How does the water appear like black ink?
Magic!
What would happen if I used boiling water?
You could ruin your Buddha Board and/or burn yourself. There's absolutely no reason to use boiling water.
Does it ever stop working?
Nope. Once it dries/disappears you can draw on it again.
Is it thick like paint?
No, it uses regular water.
Will the paint smudge at all???
It's not paint. The board itself turns black whenever it gets wet, so yes, smudging the water will make other parts of the board change color.
Does the water just turn black it self when you paint on the Buddha Board?
No, the board turns black.
What do you use to clear this?
Time. The water has to evaporate before the image disappears.
Can you paint it with dripping effects by just pouring the water on the top?
Yes, though pouring water directly onto the Buddha Board could ruin it.
Will there be one with red ink?
Sorry, but we do not have plans for a version with red "ink".
Will the bamboo paintbrush break?
Not unless you intentionally snap it in half or something. With normal use the bamboo brush should last quite a while.
What is the board made of? Paper?
Sorry, but the manufacturer will not disclose exactly how the Buddha Board works or what it is made of.
What if I lose the holder but not the paintbrush and the board. Can I still draw just by using a cup of water.
The Buddha Board will work without the holder. You could probably even prop it up with a desktop picture frame holder.
How long does it take before the water dissolves?
Depending on how much water you used, it could take 10-15 minutes for the water to begin evaporating enough for the slate to completely erase.
How much water can the base hold, and how much would you recommend for about a 30 minute sitting? And, also, what number question am I?(81?)
According to the manufacturer, around one cup of water should fill the base 1/2 inch. The point is to not fill it up too high because you want to avoid getting the water near the bottom of board itself. Although we haven't timed it, we think that should be plenty of water for 30 minutes. You are question #19,112!
Does the Original Budda Board come in more colors?
We only have the Buddha Board available in the style you see here (with a black base).
This looks fantastic. Ink-painting, without the mess (I would know, yikes). Ingenious! But what kind of surface is the board? Smooth and shiny? Paper-like?
It's more paper-like. Definitely not shiny.
Are there any large wall mount walls available or could be custom made for the magic paint?
I'm sorry but we are unable to offer custom sizes or designs.
what is the board made of? what causes the water to turn into a ink ?
It's a secret. The water doesn't turn into ink; rather, it it allows the dark surface beneath the board to show through.
Can I use any paintbrush to draw with the water?
Absolutely. It's the water that causes the board to change colors, not the brush.
Can my cat become a artist???
I suppose. I've seen people do some strange things with cats in the name of "art".
could you put like a plastic surface on it etc to stop the water from evaporateing
No. If you want something permanent, just use regular paint.
If the board is frozen, what happens?
The board is not made of water so it cannot be frozen. We have a pretty good idea of what you're getting at, but we cannot say for sure if it will work or if it wont damage your Buddha Board.
What if i freeze it with my painting on it?
I'm not sure if that will work, but once again, the point of the exercise is to break the bonds of attachment.
How much is shipping?
Shipping costs and times will vary depending on the method of shipping you choose at checkout.
If I let it dry completely between uses and continually use it like that will it become over saturated?
It's not possible to be dry and saturated at the same time.
What if i paint too much in one day will it break?
There's no limit to how much you can paint in one day, but you don't want to over saturate the Buddha Board.
What would happen if i licked the buddha board? Would it be safe?
Technically you could "paint" on the Buddha Board with your tongue. However, you should not do this because your tongue and skin can leave behind oils and other things that can damage the board. The manufacturing process can include glues and other residues that could get on the surface of products. You don't want to potentially ingest things like this.
If I made just 1 simple stroke across the board's surface. How long would that take. I know it take 10-15 minutes for a whole painting to disappear but would about 1 simple, straight line, stroke.
That depends on how wet the mark is. Generally speaking, 10 minutes is about how long it takes for the water to completely evaporate.
What is the board made of?
Sorry, but the manufacturer will not disclose exactly how the Buddha Board works or what it is made of.
if water is poured on they whole thing will it erase or will it be destroyed?
The whole surface will turn black. In fact, saturating the Buddha Board like that can possibly ruin it.
Is there some type of refill pad for the board?
The board should never need to be replaced, and nothing is ever taken from it, so there isn't anything to necessarily refill.
If you put food coloring in the water and paint with it will it come off?
Using food coloring in the water will definitely stain the board.
What do you mean by "proper care"?
Using the Buddha Board as it is intended. Not submerging it in water, using only water, using clean water, and using a brush.
How long does the painting last before it fades? In the video it disappears almost immediately (when he is walking up to the worker). If it lasts longer (around) how long? does it depend on the temperature?
It depends on how damp your brush is. If you're using lighter, drier brushstrokes, the art will evaporate much quicker than if you're using dark, thick brushtrokes.
Is there a mark in the base that indicates 2 inches of water?
There is no mark in the reservoir for water level, but the instruction book that comes with the Buddha Board states to put in 1/2 inch of water. As long as the water isn't touching the board, all is good.
Why does it have to be Buddha? Can I take that off of it?
You can take the "Buddha Board" sticker off of the base. If any residue is left behind, soap and water should remove it.
What does it feel like? Paper, plastic or something.
It feels smoother than regular paper. Maybe slicker like glossy paper.
everytime i go to checkout with something from Vat19, i change my mind for something else from Vat19, i cant choose what i want! please help me choose! there's so many awesome things!
That's a tough one to answer without knowing you. It depends on what you like and what you want. If you can't choose one thing, you could get a few things and get free shipping on an order $125+!
What is the science to the brush and board? Is it magic?
Magic and water!
Made in USA?
These are made in China.
If I the board falls on the ground will it break?
Probably not but you should avoid throwing your Buddha Board around.
I got dirt on my buddha board. is their any way to get it off?
We would suggest a gentle scrubbing with a soft, wet sponge.
Does the Buddha Board have a shelf life, as in, after say a couple years of use, will it "stop working" or not be as effective as before?
Not that we're aware of. If it did we would definitely mention it on the product page. Really the only thing that can damage a Buddha Board is saturating it with water.
could i set the board flat on the table and paint like a piece of paper? BTW i LOVE your videos you guys are awesome.
You can, but I think you'll find it easier to paint with the easel upright.
Say i make a picture and one sidestarts to fade can i get it wet again without breaking the board?
That should be fine. It typically takes around 10-15 minutes for a picture to fade completely, so you should have plenty of time.
Is it waterproof?
Submerging the whole Buddha Board could ruin it, so it can't be considered truly "waterproof".
If you use food colored water, would the color change on the board?
No, it would not change the image on the board, but it may permanently stain it.
how do you pay?
We have lots of payment options! You can pay via credit card, PayPal, Checkout by Amazon, or mail us a cashier's check or money order.
how long will it take to come to weston?
It depends on the shipping method you choose. To view shipping times, click "Calculate Shipping" and enter your zip code.
about how much water do you need to not make the board drip and ruin your picture? i just got mine today, and haven't quite mastered it yet, lol. thanx BTW.
It's good to get the brush wet and then tap off excess water onto a paper towel or on the little Buddha Board tray. If the brush gets too waterlogged, then it will drip all over the board, as you've experienced. Keep practicing - you'll master it yet! Another tip, of course, is to paint with the board flat on a table as opposed to upright.
how does it work because I have a science channel and idk how it works
The manufacturer won't say- they just state it’s a trade secret.
2 Questions... How long does it take to evaporate? If you want to hasten the drying process to start again, can you wipe the water off with a paper towel?
About 10-15 minutes depending on how much water there is. Obviously the less water there is that has to evaporate, the quicker it will dry.
is it safe four young ones? BTW i love your vids! don't stop!
The manufacturer recommends it for 5 years and up. At that age a child should understand the rules for using the Buddha Board, such as to not over saturate it, to not use crayons or pens or touch it with food, and to not accidentally use the other end of the brush thus scratching the board. We'll keep the videos coming!
when i used the shipping calculator it should multiple companies like ups and it shows the prices do we have to pay them all or do we choose which one we want?
Those are your shipping options. When you check out, you will only need to pay for the one you choose.
How long would the Buddah Board last? Would it eventually quit "magicly" erasing the black "ink" and leave it to permanint stain?
No, the Buddha Board will last for a very, very long time with proper use and will not permanently hold a mark from water.
will it last 100 years?
The manufacturer officially gives the Buddha Board a lifespan of 5 years due to the constant application of water to the board material and other wear-and-tear.
What if I put a few drops of food dye in the water.. just enough for slight a tint. Would that stain the Buddha Board?
Yes, food dye would stain the Buddha Board. Only clean, room temperature water should be used with it.
How long does it take to ship to Florida?
The cost of shipping, as well as the estimated arrival time, will depend entirely on the shipping method you choose when you check out online. You can click the “Shipping Calculator” link near the top of the product page for shipping quotes.
How long do the brush strokes last?
It depends on how much water you use, though on average a painting should fully vanish in about 10-15 minutes.
what happens if it rains on my budda board? Will it leave little dots? will rain stain it?
Rain will not damage the board in and of itself but you should never saturate your Buddha Board with water. Leaving it out in the rain by accident would not be good.
Is there a pen for the Buddah Board or just a paintbrush?
The Buddha Board only comes with a paintbrush.
How would you suggest a person keep the project if they don't want it to disappear?
Either use real paint (which would then ruin the Buddha Board) or take a picture of your masterpiece before it disappears.
Can i use every Brush i want?
You are free to use any brush you like with the Buddha Board.
what liquids can i use?
Only clean water.
how long does it take the art to evaporate????
That depends on how damp your brush is. If you're using lighter, drier brushstrokes, the art will evaporate much quicker than if you're using dark, thick brustrokes.
I cannot order things online so, is it possible to buy this in a store? And if so, where?
Sorry, we do not know of any retail stores that sell the Buddha Board.
exactly what material is the board made out of? thanks :)
It's a secret!
Is this good for 10 year olds?
I think so, just as long as they understand not to oversaturate the board or use permanent colors.
OMG.... its awesome
Glad you think so!
If the board is stained (with oil), is it possible to recover it? If not, can we get only the board, without the base? Thanks!
We consulted the manufacturer, and they said there is not a way to remove oil from the Original Buddha Board. We do not sell the board separately.

Please excuse the shameless cross promotions!
