Overview

Locks are great. They keep filthy criminals from stealing your loot. The only problem is that most keyless locks require you to remember a combination of numbers as well as a series of clockwise and counter-clockwise turns. With WordLock Padlocks and Luggage Locks, securing your belongings has gotten much simpler. You pick words, not numbers as your combination.

The 4-letter WordLock Luggage Lock features up to 10,000 combination possibilities and is Travel Sentry Approved. This means that airport security can inspect your luggage without damaging your lock.

The 5-letter WordLock Padlock allows up to 100,000 word combinations and is designed for both indoor and outdoor security.

Available in a variety of colors.

You pick a combination that you'll never forget

WordLock locks provide the same level of safety as traditional locks with one major difference- a WordLock combination is infinitely easier to remember (because it's a word you select!).

Traditional padlocks require you to remember not only three separate numbers, but also the direction and sequence of several turns (how many counter-clockwise turns past zero is it?). This may not seem like a big deal...until you're busting out a blowtorch to break into your tool shed because you forgot the combination.

The WordLock's patented system uses letters instead of numbers. This means you can choose a word that makes sense to you and is easy to remember.

WordLock Word Combination Locks
WordLock Padlocks and Luggage Locks use words, not numbers, for their combinations.

WordLock Luggage Locks are recognized by the TSA

WordLock Luggage Locks are ideal for keeping your bags secure when you travel. They're tough, dependable, and Travel Sentry Approved. This means that airport security won't break out the bolt cutters if they decide to inspect your luggage. The TSA and other authorities can unlock and relock your WordLock, but no one else can. If your current luggage lock isn't Travel Sentry Approved, don't be surprised if your lock is gone after your next flight.

WordLock Luggage Locks are also great for:

  • Backpacks
  • Musical instruments
  • Briefcases
  • Office desks

WordLock Luggage Locks are Travel Sentry Approved and TSA recognized.
WordLock Luggage Locks are approved by the TSA.

Secure indoor / outdoor padlock

WordLock Padlocks provide maximum protection against theft with a 2-5/8" hardened steel shackle and body. They're also weatherproof, so they're perfect for outdoor use on sheds, gates, and storage boxes.

WordLock Padlocks are also great for:

  • Toolboxes
  • School lockers
  • Job sites
  • Securing the area of the building where you stash all of your giant gummy bears

WordLock Padlocks feature a hardened steel shackle and 3000 lbs of pull strength.
The weatherproof WordLock Padlock is perfectly suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Up to 100,000 combination possibilities

The beauty of a WordLock padlock or luggage lock is that you select a word combination that is simple for you to remember and nearly impossible for a criminal to guess. The luggage locks feature 10,000 possible combinations; the padlock, 100,000.

So, pick a word that's easy for you to remember -- even if it is slightly questionable (yes, you can spell both 'doody' and 'poop' with WordLocks) -- and stop worrying about theft or needing to call a locksmith to regain access to your secret stash of John Cougar Mellencamp concert DVDs.

WordLock Luggage Locks feature up to 10,000 possible word combinations. WordLock Padlocks feature up to 100,000 possible combinations.
The combination to your WordLock padlock and luggage lock will be easy to remember, but nearly impossible to guess.

Choose from several styles of WordLocks

The WordLock is available as a luggage lock or a padlock. The padlock is available in silver and the luggage locks can be purchased in red, black, and silver.

Burning Questions: You Ask and We Answer

Burning Questions: You ask and we answer!
Your questions that have been answered by the Vat19.com staff:
Which one would be better for a school locker: the padlock or luggage lock?
Definitely the padlock.
How manny letters has every code? I mean, i.e. I can make all the passwords from AAAAA to ZZZZZ (not to use just for know if it has every possible letter)
Each dial only has certain letters and does not contain all letters of the alphabet.
Can the Silver Padlock be used for a school locker?
Sure, just as long as your locker has a big enough space on the handle.
How does the word lock know what your lock word is?
You can set the word using the instructions included with the WordLock.
Can I spell lock?
You can, but that wouldn't be a very good code.
HOW DO YOU RESET AND MAKE A NEW 5 LETTER PASSWORD LOST THE LITTLE PEICE OF PAPER THAT CAME WITH THE LOCK THANKS
These are the instructions to reset the combination on the Padlock: 1) Align the dials to spell your current password. Pull the shackle up. 2) Using a coin, turn the slot on the left side of the lock to RESET. 3) Set dials to your new word combination. 4) Turn the slot on the left side of the lock back to its original position. 5) Reinsert the shackle into the lock body.
Aren't words way easier to guess than random numbers, making these locks easier to crack?
We think they're easier to remember but not necessarily easier to guess. The Padlock has 100,000 possible combinations and the Luggage Lock has 10,000. You'd have to be incredibly lucky to guess the right word.
How do you change what the word is to unlock the lock?
The instructions are included with the lock. First, you have to set it to the original combination. Then, you turn the dial on the side of the lock with a coin and set the new combination. Once it is set, you turn the dial back to its original position.
What are the letters on the 5 letter padlock? Are they as awesome and inspiring as the rest of the website?
First column: P, F, M, D, T, A, L, S, W, B. Second column: A, P, O, R, I, L, C, E, T, N. Third column: N, U, T, O, S, E, R, I, L, A. Forth column: K, N, R, T, E, L, D, A, O, S. Fifth column: Y, D, blank, E, R, L, S, N, T, H.
Does the pad lock work with bikes?
Sure. You can use this lock on anything that you would normally secure with a padlock.
Can BAD WORDS be used as the combination?
You can, but those tend to be pretty obvious choices.
Is it bulletproof?
Nothing is truly bulletproof, but the manufacturer does not guarantee that WordLock locks are bullet resistant for all rounds.
so if i bought the padlock which has 10000 combo, and i happen to forget the code, and i cannot reset the code, what can i do? do i have to try each code one by one?
Unfortunately, there is no way to reset the combination on your lock if the current combination is unknown. Wordlocks are designed without a master lock to keep them extra secure. I suppose going through all possible combinations would be one way to go about it.
How do you set it?
The instructions for setting a new combination are included with each lock.
Could this be used as a bike lock ?
The WordLock could be use to lock the chain you use to lock your bike, but it is not itself a bike lock. Bike locks are much larger and go through the frame and wheel of the bike.
What do I do if the letters stopped moving, like they are rusty but they are not? Could I try to reset my password?
You can't reset a lock when it's closed. The hardened steel shouldn't rust very easily, but if they do then you might want to try a little WD-40 or something similar.
How do I let the luggage lock know what I want the password to be?
The instructions include how to set the password. You can read them here.
Does it come with a spare key incase I forget the word?
No. You'll just have to be careful not to forget your word.
What if your lock will not close when you try to reset the lock? What can I do?
You may want to try setting the lock to its original combination to unlock it. There shouldn't be anything preventing it from closing.
I was wondering why doest the padlock hat "bumps" higher than the rest of the letters?
Probably to make it easier to spin the letters.
Is the lock very strong? What happens if u knock it with a hammer?
The locks are pretty dang strong. Here are the nitty gritty technical details. The padlock's pull strength is 3000 N / Grade 2, and its cut strength is 18000 N / Grade 4. For the luggage lock, the pull strength is 1700 N / Grade 1. Unfortunately I do not have a measurement for the luggage lock's cut strength.
What letters are on each row of the 4 letter ones?
Row 1: LGRDPSBTMH Row 2: OIRYEULHTA Row 3: COLINARSET Row 4: KNLPATESDY
Can you destroy it?
Not easily!
I got my word lock open. But i forgot the password. Can i reset the password?. The lock is open.
Not unless you remember the password. The lock has to set to the correct combination before you can reset it.
I got a padlock yesterday and I reset the password but when I reseted I did it all wrong I put tje reset button up instead,of closeing it first now I cant, open it any ideas?
You're just going to have to start guessing. There isn't any way to reset the password if you don't know the combination.
Can it lock up a bike because that's the only thing i would use it for at 14 years old?
The larger WordLock Padlock would work well for chaining up a bike.
What word did you spell that you censored?
It was pretty heinous, which is why we censored it. You'll just have to use your imagination.
Will the silver padlock fit inside a hole with the diameter of 1cm? in other words, is the hook thicker than 1cm?
The silver padlock will fit through a hole the diameter of 1cm. The shackle has a diameter of about 0.7cm.
can you make the word titan
Yes, you can spell the word "titan" on the Silver Padlock, but not on the luggage locks (because they only have four letters).
This is like a normal number lock, the combination is already selected, correct?
No, you choose your 4-letter or 5-letter (depending on which WordLock you buy) combination. That's why it is so awesome - you can choose a word you won't forget!
Does the "small" WordLock work with most standard sized lockers?
Either size should work with most lockers.
Do you ship to South Africa ?
Yes, we ship internationally.
My question is why don't you make the lock come with its own combination so if people had forgotten their password, they can reset it with the pass they only know that came with the lock?
Because that's simply not how combination locks work. A mechanical combination lock can only have one correct combination.
I forgot my password is there anything I can do to unlock it?
Apart from a bolt cutter? No. If you could change the password without knowing the original then what would stop thieves from doing that?
Well, is it weather resistant? (like is it waterproof, so it won't break when it gets wet or overheated?)
That's exactly right! WordLock Locks are intended for both indoor and outdoor use.
how many possible combinations does the luggage lock(four letters) have? Also how many letters are in each row?
We actually mention this at the top of the page. The 4-letter WordLock Luggage Lock features up to 10,000 combination possibilities and the 5-letter WordLock Padlock allows up to 100,000 word combinations.

Each wheel contains 10 letters.
What if I use one of the words from the list and someone else has a list a try to crack my code?
They'd have to go through every word on the list (and there are a LOT!). I think this would rouse someone's suspicion.
What is the hole on the side that looks like it can fit a key? is it for the TSA?
The WordLock Luggage Locks are TSA approved and can be opened by them, however the larger padlock is not. That slot you see is used to reset the password.
Can it spell open?
Sure, if you want a completely easy-to-guess password.
How does the TSA open the lock?
The TSA actually have special tools which they use to open TSA approved locks. With some combination locks, there are master combinations which are particular to certain lock styles.
What do I do if i want to change the combination?
The included instructions will walk you through all the necessary steps to change the letter combination.
Sample combo's for 4 letter lock ?
A list of possible combinations is included with each WordLock.
is it easy to break and what is it made of and who had this idea?
The shackles are hardened steel, so no, they are not easy to break. They were invented by Todd Basche.
How much do the locks weigh?
The luggage locks weigh 2.4 oz each, and the padlock weighs 6.4 oz.
I have a brass, 4 digit Wordlock padlock, I have the code to open the lock. How can I reset the code?
Enter the original code, turn the lock mechanism to the "set" position, enter the new code, replace the lock mechanism. You may need a coin or screwdriver to accomplish this.
My lock is locked and I can't remember the password. How can I open it?
A bolt cutter should do the job. Your only other option would be to acquire one of those TSA master keys.
Can you keep resetting it?
You can reset the combination as many times as you like but you would still have to know the original combination to do that.
I bought a word lock and set a word as my password and it worked twice. Now, I can't get it to open using the password. Is there a way to reset the lock or am I out my money?
You can't reset a lock if the combination (or in this case, word) you're using isn't correct. If you could, then a thief would just reset the combination and open it that way. It's possible that the letter wheel was not completely on one of the letters when you set it, so try opening it with one of the neighboring letters. If that doesn't work then you will likely have to destroy the lock.
Can you change the combination and how can you do it?
Yes. The included instructions will walk you through the combination changing process.
In the event that I forget my combination, can it be cut with a standard lock cutter.
Not easily but it's certainly possible.
Three questions can you change the password anytime? Which is best for a standard locker? How much would it cost in total to ship to Canada with this in my cart?
1. Only if you know the original password. 2. That will depend on the locker. 3. This will depend on the shipping method you choose at checkout. Click the "Calculate Shipping" link at the top of the page for more information.
Is BACH a possible combination?
It is not. Sorry!
what happens if I forget the letters to open the lock?
To put it bluntly you'd be out of luck. There's no way to reset the combination without knowing the original combination.
Could someone easily change the password when it is locked?
Absolutely not. It'd be a pretty crummy lock if you could just change the password when it's closed.
Can you use some naughty words, such as D***, A***, V***, T*** ?
Although I don't know exactly which words you mean by D*** and T***, I'm thinking the answer is yes. Words beginning with A or V cannot be spelled because those letters are not available in the first row.
why is there only a silver padlock?
That's just the way it is! Sorry, we don't really have a great answer for that one.
The lock is open and I don't remember the password used. What do I do to reset and input a new password?
If you don't know the original combination, you cannot set a new one. If you could, any thief would be able to just set a new password.
Can I repeat letters for words like goose, feet, leech? That have the double letter!
Yes, there are a few repeating letters.
What does that rectangular hole is for and how do we do it?
It's not for you. It's a key hole for a TSA master key so that they don't have to cut the lock to inspect your luggage.
Which is best for a summer camp?
Whichever best fits the container you're expected to use.
You say you need a coin to set it what English coin can you use?
We don't know since we're not from England. We're sure that finding an appropriate coin wouldn't be too difficult since most coins are approximately the same thickness.
I would want to use my husband's name as the combo. It starts with a "J". Do these locks even have a "J"?
They do not. Sorry!
Are they easy to hack?
Locks are cracked; computers are hacked. No, they're very difficult to crack.
can you make up words and use them?
Sure. The WordLock doesn't know the difference between a real word or a made-up one.
How do you set the chose a password?
It's a bit difficult to explain here, but the lock comes with instructions illustrating how to set the lock's combination.
Why is it necessary to use words? Can one not use a random combination of letters which, though they may have some other significance, cannot be identified as words?
Absolutely. The combination is obviously up to you.
OK, so whatever word you put in before you close it is the code that time? Or does the code stay forever?
What good would a lock be if you had to reset it every time you used it? No, the combination will not reset on its own.
Hey Vat19! I have a wordlock, and a couple of weeks ago at a b-day party, by showing off the awesome device, I changed the password. Now I can't remember the password!! can you help me in any way? is there a shorter way to find it? Thanks!
I'm afraid not. If there were some sort of secret backdoor to unlocking these then they wouldn't be very secure. Trial and error might be your only option.
While opening my padlock I accidentally pulled the reset button and now I don't know the combo. How do unlock it or what can I use to break it.
I'm sorry, but if you reset the password then there really isn't much we can do for you. You would probably need a pair of bolt cutters to get the lock off.
Can I spell PINE on the four letter lock?
Yes, "PINE" is a valid combination.
i dont have the password i forgot it can it be reset any way thanks beve rowe
Unfortunately there is no way to reset the combination on your lock if the current combination is unknown. This is true for all combination locks. In the interest of security, Wordlocks do not have a master combination that can be used to reset the lock.
Can the combination be changed once it is set, or is it permanent once set?
The combination can be changed an endless number of times. Instructions for doing so are included with the lock.
no i think they can easily figure out your combo by just glancing at it!! they just have to remember the word like in school!
Just make sure no one is looking when you unlock your WordLock. And then when you lock it, you obviously mix up the letters so your word is no longer showing.
How to reset word if you forgot original word?
You can't. If you could do that then anyone would be able to change the combination and open the lock.
I don’t have my original password. How do I unlock and reset a password
You can't. If you could, then anyone would be able to open your lock by simply resetting the combination.
Is there any way to open the lock if you forgot the password? Do you have a list of words that could jog my memory?
Nope. It wouldn't be a very good lock if you could open it without the correct combination.
If there are 100,000 possible combinations, then there are ten letters for each of the combinations letters. Are there set letters for each lock or is there a way to customize it?
You can create your own combination from the available letters but there is no way to add letters to the steel dials that are permanently attached to the lock.
Does the padlock comes with travel sentry approval???
Yes it does.
do you have free shipping in Australia? because I would buy every thing if you did and all my friends ant to as well
I'm sorry but we do not offer free international shipping.
Do they allow them at high schools?
We can't think of any reason why they wouldn't be. Each school has its own rules; we suggest learning yours.
What are the prices in stirling?
We have no idea. The best thing to do is to check Google for the exchange rate when you place your order. Note that we will automatically charge the correct amount when you place your order online.
Is it lava proof?
No. You'll have to find a different lock to protect your molten lava collection.
Can you please make an 8 letter lock that's blue?
There are no plans for more colors at this time. Sorry!
will you ever make a three word one?
There are no plans for more styles at this time.
My luggage lockers open but I can't remember the password, is there a way to set a new password and then close it again
I believe so. The instructions should be able to help.
I forgot my password on my word lock and can’t open it, is there anything I can do to get it unlocked without a password?
If you could open the lock without the password then it wouldn't be a very effective lock. At this point your only option would be to cut the lock off with a set of bolt cutters.
What is the least secure combination I can make with WordLock?
Probably the default combination the lock arrives with.
How do you reset your password if you forget?
You can't. If there was a way to do that, then all a thief would need to do is reset the password.
can you spell TRAIN?
I wasn't able to spell the word "TRAIN" on the larger lock, but remember that you don't necessarily have to spell a word correctly.
Can we paint over the original letters to make different combinations than the lock would originally provide?
Perhaps, but it would be very difficult to do so. Even then, you run the risk of the paint wearing off.
What if you forget the code? Would you need to buy a new one? What is a lifetime warranty?
There is no way to reset the combination on your lock if the current combination is unknown. Wordlocks are designed without a master lock to keep them extra secure. The lifetime warranty is from the manufacturer and just means that if your lock suffers from a manufacturing defect, it will be replaced.
Can you spell the word "Grant" with the silver padlock?
Unfortunately, no.
How do I change the password
Much like a regular combination lock, there is a plate which can be turned that will allow you to set a new password. Instructions will be included with the lock.
is the word Digit usable on the silver wordlock?
I'm afraid not. Sorry!
Is WAVE a possible combination on the luggage lock?
I'm sorry, but WAVE is not a possible combination.
What if you forgot your word combination?
Then you're just out of luck and you might need to look into some bolt cutters. Try sticking with a combination you can remember.
can i spell fire on the luggage locks?
"FIRE" is not a valid password for the luggage locks, but it will work for the padlock.
Would this lock a diary?
Sure, as long as the clasp on the diary was large enough to fit the lock.
You said in the video that the padlocks were weatherproof, so if it is waterproof will it every rust if exposed to water and air for a long time?
Wordlocks are stainless steel and weather resistent, but if they are constantly exposed to water and air it can lead to small spots of rust.
If you are in like middle school and get this for your locker, wont someone easily find out your number or letters?
Not if you don't tell anyone! With the Padlock there are 100,000 possible combinations and with the Luggage Lock there are 10,000. Someone would have to be a pretty good guesser to figure it out.
Could I use my name?
We can't guarantee it. There are only so many letters on each dial; they weren't designed to be able to spell every word or name.
What is the diameter of the silver padlock's shackle?
The silver padlock will fit through a hole the diameter of 1cm. The shackle has a diameter of about 0.7cm.
so i could make up words and used another word back
Yes, you can choose your word combination. There are tons of possibilities!
do these locks fit on school lockers? if yes which locks?
The Padlock is your best bet for a school locker.
Did you ever notice that these locks are almost like the cryptex from the davinci code. Because that's just awesome because it's one of my most favourite book and movie.
I hate to admit it, but I've never seen the movie or read the book.
MY LOCK IS STUCK ON OPEN , AND I DONT REMEBER THE COMBO, i AM UNABLE TO MOVE THE RESET BUTTON.. WHAT TO DO??(SORRY CAP IS STUCK ON MY PC)
Unfortunately, there is no way to reset the combination on your lock if the current combination is unknown. In the interest of security, Wordlocks do not have a master combination that can be used to reset the lock.
Can the word rock can be spelled in the small lock?
Yes, the word "ROCK" can be used as a combination.
Can you spell "WLGB" on this lock
Nope, the 4-letter Luggage Lock does not have a "W" on the first row.
How do you change the combination?
The included instructions will walk you through all the necessary steps to change the letter combination.
Can you use the luggage lock for a locker instead of the padlock?
I don't see why not.
Can it spell any 4 or 5 letter words?
The 4-letter WordLock Luggage Lock features up to 10,000 combination possibilities, while the 5-letter WordLock Padlock features up to 100,000 possible combinations.
what happens if I put 3001 lbs of pressure on it?
According to the manufacturer, the pull strength for the padlock is 3000 N / Grade 2, and the pull strength for the luggage lock is 1700 N / Grade 1. We do not have the resources here to test what would happen if these limits were exceeded.
I never used these types of locks before, so how do you make sure the word is set?
It'd be much easier to view the instructions than attempt to type them out here.
can I change the again and again
Yes, you can change the word combination. There are instructions for doing so included with the lock.
I love both this product and your company. Do you love me?
Yes, we love all of our wonderful customers.
Can I use a level 2 luggage lock on a school locker?
It depends on the size and shape of the locker's handle. Since different schools have different lockers, there's no way to know for sure.
How does airport security open up the lock and no body else can can open it besides them and you?
This is a direct quote from the TSA government website: "TSA has worked with several companies to develop locks that can be opened by security officers using universal "master" keys so that the locks may not have to be cut."

Please excuse the shameless cross promotions!
